- Maniac Runs Away

- Get outta there runt. This is a Little League record. You ain’t in Little League.
- After the death of Maniac’s parents, for 8 years he lived with his Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan who both hate each other. Maniac gets tired of this behavior and finally decides to run away from this harmful household during his school’s spring musicale leaving him homeless.
- Cobble’s Knot
- After 1 year of being homeless, Maniac finally has a real interaction with someone, Amanda Beale. He thought she was running away too, but in reality she was just going to school. He sees she is carrying a suitcase full of books and she is able to loan him one, The Children’s Crusade.
- Maniac meets Grayson
- Grayson.
- Just that same day Maniac met Amanda, he met John McNab, who was in the Little League and was a part of the Cobras. Maniac had been the first person that John McNab couldn’t strike out. He was even able to bunt a frog used as a ball that McNab pitched. This event and many other ones is what gave Maniac Magee his name.
- Maniac finally goes home to the Beale’s house
- You are coming home with me, and you are going to sleep in my room, which is going to be your room!

- After bouncing between the East and West end, Maniac is finally taken in by the Beale’s. One day people start telling Maniac to go back where he belongs. So, Amanda tries to help him fit in by taking him to Cobble’s Knot. Maniac ends up untying the knot but it did not change anything about the discrimination him and the Beale’s were getting so he decides to leave.

- Now that Maniac is homeless, he has being living in the zoo with the buffalos since then. One day an old man, Grayson, found him there and took him to the Band Shell. Maniac then lives with Grayson for a long period of time and they create a strong bond. Suddenly, Grayson dies 5 days after Christmas leaving Maniac homeless once again and awaiting for death.
- Who are you?
- After Grayson’s death, Maniac meets Piper and Russell, who are John McNab’s little brothers, and ends up living in their house. Along the way, he has many interactions with Mars Bar and takes him tho the McNab’s home to show there is no difference between the blacks and whites. His plan doesn’t work out and he again has no home to go to. One day, Amanda demands him to come home with her. In the end, Maniac has a home.
