In 1885, George Eastman developed photographic paper and later film! Eastman founded the Kodak company which dominated the photography industry for the next hundred years! Digital cameras were invented in 1975 and replaced photographic film with electronic sensors. With digital cameras, photographers no longer need to wait to develop the film to see what the images are like! Camera phones were invented in 2000 and now most modern smartphones have a camera!
The idea of the camera began 2,500 years ago in Ancient China with the creation of the camera obscura, which projected an image on to a flat surface by forcing light through a tiny hole in a screen. German author Johann Zahn designed a camera in 1685 but did not have the technology to bring his idea to life. Then, in 1827, Nicéphore Niépce created the first photograph in France using a camera obscura and a pewter plate where the image was captured!
