There are many reasons why people immigrate to a new country. Some move for new opportunities, better jobs, and a better life in general. Some move to escape wars, dictatorship, disease, and other horrible things that are happening in their country. In this unit, students will learn about the history of immigration to the United States, and how our country came to be one of many unique people and traditions.
One of the main reasons immigrants come to the United States is to find work and create a better life for themselves and their families.

Often times people will immigrate without family and get settled. Once they have established a foundation, their families will join them in the new country.
People immigrate to other countries to escape the bad conditions or ways of life in their country. Some examples of these conditions are war, natural disasters, high crime rates, and lack of work.
