Devastating Fire

Gambling

The Hoover Dam

During the winter of 1846-1847, the Donner Party wagons are snowbound in the Sierra Nevada Mountains due to an early blizzard.

Nevada was the 36th state admitted into the Union on October 31, 1864.

On October 25, 1875, the Great Fire blazed through Virginia City, leaving about 10,000 people homeless.

Gambling was legalized in Nevada, and would soon lead to a booming tourist population for years to come.

The Hoover Dam construction is completed. Beginning in 1931, the dam created Lake Mead and controls the water flow of the Colorado River.
