Storyboard Text

  • Emotional Trigger:This is the base reason someone turns to drugs for relief. It is usually out of their control. Susan recently moved, and feels lost in her new home.
  • I wish I was back in Baltimore! Everything here is so overwhelming. I miss my friends.
  • Craving to Use:Susan tries to decide how to deal with her regret and sorrow. She chooses pills. This is the point where addiction can cause you to make that decision more, and where the choice needs to be made to stop.
  • What can I do? This is killing me. Maybe some pills?
  • Use:Susan uses the drugs, hoping it will help drown out her feelings. She made the wrong choice, and it can harm her later.
  • If this will help, maybe I should try two of them. That has to help even more, right?
  • And the cycle starts all over again:
  • Guilt / Shame:Susan is reminded of the move and the problems she has with it. Without the relief of the drugs, it hits her hard, making her want more relief. The situation has only gotten worse.
  • I'm glad you seem so happy Susan. I know you were having a tough time dealing with the move.
  • Temporary Relief:Susan feels much better for now, and can go about her life again. She feels relief. However, her feelings may come back even more once the drug wears off.
