  • The Native Americans were forced to leave their land because the Americans did not want to live with the Indians. The passageway they walked on was named the Trail of Tears because of the Indians' sad feelings and how much they suffered. We signed a treaty with the tribe Lakota that they could live in the Black Hills. When we broke the treaty, the Lakota had a war with us called the Battle of Bighorn.

Texans decided to fight for independence. They formed the Republic of Texas. The President of Mexico was enraged when he got to know about the rebellion. His name was Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. He sent soldiers to San Antonio, Texas where the Alamo was. The Alamo was a building where there were 184 Texians. They had a battle called the battle of the Alamo. Mexico won it. Later, another battle takes place where the Texians win. Texas even joins the U.S.
  • The Oregon Trail is a pathway that starts from the east of the U.S. and ends at the west. The first people to settle into a region are pioneers. Some walked on the trail barefoot. Others went in wagons lead by cattle and oxen. Wagon Trains are groups of wagons traveling together. They are very long and have hundreds or thousands of people in them.
  • James Marshal discovered gold in the American River in 1848. Emigrants traveled over a long trail called the California trail to get to California. There were many dangers on the trail. Some emigrants traveled to California by boat. They went around the tip of California.
