  • The Mysteries of Photosynthesis
  • Danger!
  • High Tide!
  • Come fast! We've got a lot to learn!
  • That's cool. Do you know the formula for photosynthesis?
  • Yes! It is 6CO2 + 6H20 + Sunlight = C6H12O6 + 6O2.
  • Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplast, which contains the chlorophyll.
  • I understand the first part about the water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide. I also understand the next part which is glucose. But what is the part after that?
  • That next part is oxygen. This is a waste product of photosynthesis. That is why it is not included with the glucose. What´s cool is that plants don´t need oxygen but we do. We don´t need carbon dioxide but the plants do!
  • Just asking, what is a stimulus? I didn't quite understand.
  • Oh! I understand. That was a lot of information though. Can you summarize it for me?
  • Sure! I noted everything down on my iPad.
  • 1) Photosynthesis: This is the process of a plant turning carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight into food (glucose).2) Turgor Pressure: This is when lots of water results in a large vacuole, which pushes the cell membrane against the cell wall.3) Tropism: When a plant bends or turns in response to an external stimulus.4) Emergence of Seedlings: This is when a plant starts to grow out of its seed. It is also known as germination.
  • A stimulus is something that starts or creates a response in an organism.
