The Whipping Boy
Storyboard Description
There was a royal custom that the prince could never be harmed. Prince Horace was known as "Prince Brat" because he was always getting in trouble. Because the prince wasn't allowed to be harmed a whipping boy took his punishment. The prince enjoyed watching the whipping boys get whipped and watch them cry. Then one day a new whipping boy showed up and he never cried. What does the prince do?
Storyboard Text
- "Fetch the whipping boy", said the King.
- "Twenty whacks!"
- I have already been whipped twice today? Gaw! What has the prince done now?"
- Here's my chance to escape!
- "What are you waiting for Jemmy? Come help me!"
- Leave me alone I am the prince!!!!
- There was a royal custom to not harm the prince.The prince was bad and was known as "Prince Brat". The prince enjoyed watching the whipping boys get spankings and cry.
- Everyone knows the prince can't leave the palace!!
- The whipping boy Jemmy, was not going to cry and let the prince enjoy watching him get whipped.This made the prince angry.The prince wanted Jemmy to get such a hard whipping he would cry.
- I know you are not the prince! Everyone knows the prince can spell.
- The prince made Jemmy run away with him. Jemmy was looking for a way to escape and thought he would sneak off when the prince wasn't looking.
- The prince tells me you are the reason he is safe and came back. I now place you under the prince's protection. The prince promises to behave.
- Two highwaymen, Hold-Your-Nose Billy and Cutwater kidnap the boys to make a ransom for the king. The prince didn't know how to write, so Jemmy had to write the ransom note. The kidnappers thought Jemmy was the prince.
- The boys get caught again. Since the rule is you can't whip the prince, Hold-Your-Nose Billy whipped the "whipping boy" that was actually the prince.The boys trick the men and escape again.
- Leave me alone! I am the prince!!!
- The boys made it back to the palace safe. The prince told the king about Jemmy. Jemmy realized that the prince really wanted him as a friend and was happy to be his friend! After that the prince learned to write and do his chores.
