  • SignificanceBaptism absolves sin, yet Jesus is God’s son and therefore is sinless. Therefore, Baptism wasn’t about Jesus receiving forgiveness, it was about fulfilling prophecies written foretelling the coming of a Messiah. Christians also believe that Jesus was baptised as a symbol of his human self.  A dove, often used as a symbol of peace and the arrival of good news, represents God’s spirit descending on Jesus. This provides Jesus with the power to fulfill his ministry.  The statements, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased”, confirmed Jesus’ identity as the Son of God.
