- I hereby excommunicate Martin Luther for starting a protest against the church
- Martin Luther was born at Eisleben in Saxony Germany on the 10th of November 1483. He had a wife Katharina von Bora and they had 6 kids. Luther's parents were peasants which led to his to become a lawyer to increase his family's wealth. One evening Martin Luther was caught in a dangerous storm where his life was in jeopardy. Luther vowed that if he survived the storm he would become a monk. he survived the storm and stayed true to his promise by becoming a monk.
- As a monk Martin saw what the church was doing and strongly disagreed, so he decided to nail 95 theses onto the church door. The purpose of theses was to make the church aware of their wrong doings. For example, the church was selling indulgences to people to earn money so Luther wrote that on his 95 theses so that the church would know that he doesn't agree with their behaviour. This marked the start of the Protestant Reformation.
- Martin Luther is making us loose followers so we must fight back. We will start the Counter Reformation to gain back our lost followers
- The people of the town started to realise that what the church was doing was wrong so they joined Luther in protest which started the Protestant Reformation. In an attempt to avoid this protest the church excommunicated Luther. This didn't stop his word from spreading to the community thanks to the printing press. The printing press copied and printed his work so that the greater society could read and understand what the church was doing.
- We need to stop selling indulgences because we won't gain followers if we continue to. I want church to change for the better so that our followers have a good time while learning about the word of God
- Along with spreading his word though the printing press, Luther also translated the bible to German from Latin (the language of scholars and clergy). This allowed the community to realise that the church's behaviour was not ok.
- The church realised that they were losing followers so they decided to fight back with the Counter Reformation. Inside the Counter Reformation was the Council of Trent and the Jesuits. The Jesuits set up education systems and missions to spread the church's word. Whereas, the Council of Trent made a doctrine stating that they no longer support indulgences and went on to properly train their priests. The Counter Reformation gained the Catholic church more followers
- Martin Luther influenced the church to stop selling indulgences. He made the church better for the society as he stopped the church charging people for indulgences that didn't do anything. Luther also influenced the translation of the bible into more than just German and Latin so that people all over the world could read and understand the word of God.
