Storyboard Text

  • Initially, it was all darkness (Te Po). Two Maori gods were merged together, Ranginui, the sky father and Papatuanuku, the earth mother.
  • Papatuanuku and Ranginui had six children. Tane, Tawhirimatea, Tangaroa, Rongomatane, Haumietiketike and Ruaumoko. All of them cramped between the nothingness (Te Kore). They always discussed what could be beyond that spec of light they see.
  • After many conflicts, the brothers finally agreed to seperate their parents. FInally, it was Tane who used all his might to force his parents apart. Ranginui and papatuanuku didn't want to be seperated and wept for eachother.
  • Tears of Ranginui came down from the sky, where he now remains. The brothers developed the land. They created trees and water and explored the land with freedom,
  • As time went on, the brothers split up and in the end, each become gods or guardians of particular domains. All of the children had different abilities. Tane, the god of the forest. Tawhirimatea, the god of weather. Rongomatane, the god of peace. Tangaroa, the god of the sea, Huamietiketike, the god of wild food. Ruaumoko, the god of earthquakes.
  • The seperation of Papatuanuku and Ranginui resulted in the beginning of the world of light (Te Ao Marama)
