Storyboard Text

  • The red car is moving at a constant speed and in a straight line.
  • The yellow car is also moving at a constant speed and in a straight line.
  • The red car and yellow car don't see each other and are about to collide. Both cars are still moving in a straight line and at a constant speed.
  • The yellow car and the red car crash into each other and both cars stop moving. The yellow car is older and doesn't have seat belts so the driver is going to move.
  • The driver is in motion even though the car isn't because according to Newton's 1st law, an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
  • The man in the red car doesn't fly forward like the woman in the yellow car because his car is newer and has seat belts.
  • Seat belts have to do with Newton's first law because seat belts act as the unbalanced force that stops the object (person) from moving.
  • So in conclusion, Newton's first law has to do with car crashes because an object in motion (two cars) will stat in motion unless acted on by an outside force. (car hits car which makes the cars stop). Newton's first law also has to do with seat belts because the seat belt acts as an unbalanced force which stops the person (object in motion) from going through the windshield.
