- Conflict
- I dare do all that may become a man; Who dares do more is none.
- When you durst do it, then you were a man; And, to be more than what you were, you would Be so much more the man.
- Setting
- The raven himself is hoarseThat croaks the fatal entrance of DuncanUnder my battlements.
- Characterization
- Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe, top-full Of direst cruelty.
- Macbeth and his lady are discussing why Macbeth should or shouldn't kill the king as Macbeth says, "I dare do all that may become a man; Who dares do more is none." (1.7.46-47a)
- Foreshadowing
- Upon the heath.
- There to meet with Macbeth.
- Lady Macbeth finds it very fitting that the messenger is like a hoarse raven "That croaks the fatal entrance of DuncanUnder my battlements." (1.5.38-39)
- Paradox
- Lady Macbeth would like to lose her feminine side, "And fill me from the crown to the toe, top-full Of direst cruelty." (1.5.41-42)
- Dialogue
- I'll give thee a wind.
- Thou'rt kind.

- The three witches foreshadow their meeting with Macbeth by deciding to go "upon the heath. There to meet with Macbeth." (1.1.7-8)
- Where the place?
- The three witches are comparing Banquo and Macbeth's future as Banquo will be "Lesser than Macbeth, and greater. Not so happy, yet much happier." (1.3.65-66)
- Lesser than Macbeth, and greater.

- Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none.
- After the first witch explains what they've been doing the three witches go back and forth, "I'll give thee a wind. Thou'rt kind. And I another." (1.3.11-13)
