- "Unless I have my will of you I'll die of secret - O, darling, do!" (91).
- "Give, over, Nicholas, I say! No, I won't kiss you! Stop it! Let me go Or I shall scream! I'll let the neighbours know! Where are you manners? Take away your paws!" (91).
- "Alison! Wife! Do you hear him? There goes Absalon Chanting away under our chamber wall." (93).
- "Now Dearest lady, if they pleasure be In thoughts of love, think tenderly of me!" (93).

- Alison goes to church, where a clerk named Absalon who instantly falls in love with Alison. Nicholas sings to her at her window to win her love, but she refuses because her heart belongs to Nicholas. (lines 199-288)

- Nicholas formulates a plan that will allow him to spend a night with Alison. He begins by telling John that there will be a flood as large as the one during Noah's time. (lines 289-438)

- Nicholas tells John to use three large tubs as boats for when the flood starts. They will tie the tubs with rope on the roof and cut the rope when the flood begins. (lines 439-530)
- When John falls asleep in his tub, Nicholas and Alison sneak out and go downstairs to make love. (lines 531 -458)
- Absalon hears that John is out of town, so he figures that it is the time to swoon Alison. He goes to the carpenter's house and wakes up Allison. (lines 549-599)
