- In 546 Bce the Persians conquered the sea. wars began in Ionian and Ionian revolted against Persia. Athens help Ionian and even-tho Persia won Persia vowed to destroy Athens for helping.

- In 490 BCE Persian landed in marathon. although Athens was outnumber 10000 to 25000 they still managed to win with the Persians loosing 6000 men.

- Xerxes assembles a force to defeat the badly divided Greeks. some city states support Athens but most don't.
- Delian league
- Xerxes came to a narrow mountain pass in Thermopylae7,000 Greeks blocked the waythe Greeks stopped the advance for 3 days The Spartans stayed back to hold them off.
- Athens abandon there city to fight at sea ans Xerxes sent ships to block them in. The Greek ships that were armed with battering rams broke through the blockade and won the battle.
- The Greek city states formed an alliance and drove Persia out but also gave Athens a lot of power.
