- No one needs me. Not Dan, not Joe, not Izzy, not even Mom and Dad. I'm antimatter. I only cause more pain for everybody. I wasn't made for this world.

- Mm..I don't think so. This is the Midnight Library, a place between life and death. Every book is a version of your life that you could be living, a chance to undo your regrets. If you find a life you like, you'll stay there, and all this will be a distant memory.
- Where am I? I swallowed those pills because I wanted to die.
- But if you're not taken with a life, you'll feel a sense of disappointment and fade back to here. So what'll it be, Nora?
- Nora Seed is depressed. She's been fired from a dead-end job, her brother hates her for backing out of their rock band, her ex-fiancee is a drunkard because of her, her philosophy degree didn't go anywhere, her swimming career aborted despite her potential, and she didn't even get to pursue glaciology like she once hoped to. She swallows a handful of pills.
- Am I gonna be beaten up about one drunken moment forever? I didn't mean to cheat on you, I know we're married. Just let go of it, okay?!
- Dan, I'm just wanna say I'm really proud of us. We're married, and we have a country pub, it's our dream come true.
- Nora wakes up in a place without time. It's the Midnight Library, an endless array of books that are lives she could've had if she had done things differently.
- The only way to learn is to live, Nora. I know you're feeling pain, but look, your regret about not marrying Dan is disappearing, isn't it? Why don't you try again?
- I can't believe this. I just wanna die. Why do I have to go through this?
- It's time for Nora to find the life she belongs to.

- First, she arrives in the married life, the one where she and Dan opened a picturesque country pub. He's not happy, though. He's bored with her, and he's having an affair. His happiness comes before hers. Nora can't believe this; in her root life, Dan begged her to come back, and this was how he repaid her. She fades back to the library.
- The only way to learn is to live. Not all regrets are what they seem.
- Nora enters the life of a rock star. She's wild and free, an international sensation, but she's alienated from her family and herself by an incessant fan base. Her brother, the one who loved their band more than anything, is also dead from overdose. She fades back to the library.
