  • In his story Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut makes the point that everyone being equal where the government controls this is not as good as it sounds and is essentially impossible. He shows that letting the government will be oppressive and not allow for expressing yourself or being unique. This is the main point in this story, which is that being unique is a good thing, the government is trying so hard to make everyone the same that no one is really appreciated anymore. Everything is so focused on the handicaps to prevent free expression that they forget they have actual personalities and talents. He also conveys the rebellion against such power in the case of something like that happening, not everyone will be controlled, and standing up and rebelling against the authority is essential.
