Storyboard Text

  • Hi, I am Jacob the red blood cell and I am going to teach you how I travel throughout the Circulatory system. But before any of that, you should know a few things.
  • -Bloods major components are plasma which is a solution of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. -White blood cells are produced in bone marrow and transported throughout the body in blood. -Hemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells that can bind to oxygen as it difuses throughout the body and into cells. -Capillaries surround the alveoil which allow the oxygen that is carried through the respiratory system to dissolve.
  • Take a look at the whiteboard to find out some information before we start!
  • Pulmonary Circulation
  • One more thing! There are two pathways through the Circulatory system. The Pulmonary circulation is a path of circulation between the heart and lungs, while the Systematic circulation is a path of circulation between the heart and the rest of the body.
  • Systematic Circulation
  • After the red blood cell is created in a bone, the deoxygenated blood cell travels to the heart by small blood vessels called capillaries.
  • Now the red blood cell enters the rights side of the heart and goes to the right atrium. Then it goes to the right ventricle which pumps the deoxygenated blood to the lungs so they can be oxygen rich. To do this, carbon dioxide waste from the cells gets diffused out of the blood and oxygen from the air gets absorbed into the blood.
  • The now oxygen rich blood flows to the left side of the heart to change from Pulmonary circulation to systematic circulation.
