- When Levi was 16 years old, he went with his family to New York, because the business of the family was there, a clothing business.

- In 1850 Levi travelled to San Francisco when the gold was discovered in California. Levi started making clothes for the miners, particularly trousers. The miners wanted strong clothes that didn't break easily. So he opened a store, the name was Levi Strauss & Co.

- So he invented the famous blue Levi jeans. These trousers were blue, and had metal rivets to hold the pockets and the fly together.

- Some years leater, in 1886, Levi added to his jeans a leather label. On the label there was a picture of a pair of jeans that were pulled by two horses. That showed how strong the trousers were.
- As years went on, the Levi jeans spread around the world, and more and more people started using them. In 1902 Levi Strauss died when he was 73 years old. Today over 38.000 people work in Levi's factories. A lot of people wear this trousers; rich and poor, children and adults... all over the world.
