Storyboard Text

  • A cube root is a number that can be a perfect cube. A perfect cube is the result of multiplying a number by itself 3 times.
  • Today we are learning about square and cube roots.
  • What is a cube root Mr. Tungsten?
  • For example: 2 squared is 2x2=4 so 4 would be a perfect square.
  • A square root is a number that is a perfect square. A perfect square is the result of multiplying a number 2 times itself.
  • Then what is a square root?
  • An example of a cube root would be 3 cubed which is 3x3x3. When you multiply you will get 27.
  • What if we had an equation like Y cubed = 3
  • That is correct.
  • That is simple all you would have to do is switch it around to 3 cubed = Y. Then you could solve for Y.
  • So the new equation would be 3x3x3=27
  • Another thing you might see is when you have to put square roots on a number line.
  • Let me explain.
  • How would you be able to do that.
  • If you have the number 61 it falls between square root 8 (64) and square root 7 (49). This number is closer to 64 so you would graph it closer to eight.
  • I think we are ready for the test.
