- A cube root is a number that can be a perfect cube. A perfect cube is the result of multiplying a number by itself 3 times.
- Today we are learning about square and cube roots.
- What is a cube root Mr. Tungsten?
- For example: 2 squared is 2x2=4 so 4 would be a perfect square.
- A square root is a number that is a perfect square. A perfect square is the result of multiplying a number 2 times itself.
- Then what is a square root?
- An example of a cube root would be 3 cubed which is 3x3x3. When you multiply you will get 27.
- What if we had an equation like Y cubed = 3
- That is correct.
- That is simple all you would have to do is switch it around to 3 cubed = Y. Then you could solve for Y.
- So the new equation would be 3x3x3=27
- Another thing you might see is when you have to put square roots on a number line.
- Let me explain.
- How would you be able to do that.
- If you have the number 61 it falls between square root 8 (64) and square root 7 (49). This number is closer to 64 so you would graph it closer to eight.
