  • The Salem Witch Trials
  • By: Hannah Kimsey
  • Why are Betty and Abigail acting so strangely?
  • The doctor said Abigail and Betty are under an evil hand!
  • Twelve more girls are acting like them. Everyone in town is talking about it.
  • Four of the afflicted girls soon accused three women in the town - Tituba, Sarah Osbourne, and Sarah Good. At first, they all denied witchcraft, but Tituba eventually gave a false confession to save herself and turned on the other two women.
  • After Sarah Osbourne died in prison, Sarah Good was sentenced to be hanged for not showing repentance. Tituba was set free because of her confession. In the coming months, hundreds of people were accused and imprisoned for crimes of witchcraft.
  • I'm so relieved!
  • By spring of 1693, 14 women and 6 men had been executed and the trials were spreading beyond Salem. The trials finally stopped after the wife of the Massachusetts' governor was accused. He amended sentences, stopped accusations, and halted all trials. It was never fully determined what caused the behavior of the girls.
  • All trials have been halted.
