- They do say, that over in the north village they're talking of giving up the lottery
- Pack of crazy fools, listening to the young folks, nothing's good enough for them. Next thing you know, they'll be wanting to go back to living in caves...
- ...nobody work anymore, live that way for a while. There's always been a lottery.
- The people near Tessie Hutchinson laughed as Bill went up to pick his piece of paper from the old box
- Old Man Warner despises the idea of there being no lotteries
- After every man of the house has drawn, they then open up their slips of paper. Bill opens his and finds out that his family has been drawn for the lottery. Tessie is furious
