- En 1679, l' explorateur français Robert de La Salle est arrivé dans l' Indiana, suivi par d' autres explorateurs du Canada qui cherchent à fourrure du commerce.
- La guerre française et indienne
- En 1702, le premier poste de traite de fourrures de commerce a été créé.
- The British and the French went to war over the fur trade, which is known as the French and Indian War. The Native Americans and the French were allies, but lost against the British in 1763, making the land a part of the British Empire.

- Indiana was the 19th state to be admitted into statehood on December 11, 1816.

- Le 30 mai 1911, a eu lieu la première course Indianapolis 500. Le pilote Ray Harroun a remporté la course en six heures, 42 minutes et huit secondes.
