  • CONDITIONS IN FRANCE 1789
  • Brother, could you spare us some bread please?
  • ASSEMBLY OF ESTATES GENERAL 1789
  • We are in a financial crisis and we are here meet about some solutions to fix our problems. We will vote by order on this problem and we will go from there.
  • The King and I have decided to continue on to tax the Third Estate more.
  • TENNIS COURT OATH 1789 
  • WE ARE NOW THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY !!TODAY WE WILL MAKE THE NEW CONSTITUTION OF 1791 !!
  • France was in debt with other countries due to wars in Europe and America. Poor people were starving because of bad weather devastating the grain harvest. There also was a confusing and unfair tax system where only the middle class paid taxes.
  • STORMING OF BASTILLE 1789
  • WE ARE STARVING A REVOLUTION !!
  • To help pay for his debt King Louis XVI prepared to tax the Second Estate. They refused to pay unless he calls the Estates General together. They all decided that the Third Estate pays more.
  • REIGN OF TERROR 
  • King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, you are found guilty of crimes against the state and are hereby sentenced to die this day January 21, 1793
  • On June 20, 1789 the members of the French Third Estate took the tennis court oath vowing "not to separate, and to reassemble wherever circumstances require, until the constitution of kingdom is established". It was a pivotal event in the Frence Revolution
  • RISE AND FALL OF NAPOLEON 
  • This violent attack on the government by the people of France signaled the start of the French Revolution. The Bastille was a fortress built in the late 1300s to protect Paris during the Hundred Years' war.
  • Led by chief prosecutor Maximillien Robespierre, the new government executed large numbers of people who they considered to be enemies of the revolution. This 18-month period began with King Louis XVI and his wife, Marie Antoinette, being executed in a public square on January 21, 1793 and was called the Reign of Terror.
  • Napoleon Bonaparte, a military leader skilled at public speaking and commanding the French army crowned himself emperor of France. Despite bringing an end to France's chaos due to the Revolution, he invaded nearly every country in Europe. These countries defeated him in 1815 at the Battle of Waterloo and held a conference called the Congress of Vienna to form a new balance of power in Europe.
