Storyboard Text

  • King Lear tells his three daughters that he will divide up his land in accordance to how much they love him, even though he has already divided it up and what they say won't have an effect.
  • which of you shall we say doth love us most? that we our largest bounty may extend where nature doth with merit challenge.(Shakespeare .I.ii. 52-54)
  • While Cordelia’s sisters are able to be dishonest and heavily exaggerate to Leer how much they love him Cordelia is unable to because he doesn't want to stroke his ego and be dishonest. Lear infuriated, disowns her, taking away all of her promised land and status and after kent; Lear’s advisor says he may be going too far, is banished in the king's rage

  • Cordelia no longer has any of the land her sisters have, so the lord of burgundy reveals that he only sought after her for her money and status, but the King of France did not care; he thinks herself is a dowry and says he will accept her into his country.
  • Edmund (Gloucester’s bastard son) forges a letter about his brother Edgar (Gloucester’s legitimate son) planning to kill their father and split the land and wealth between the two brothers. When Gloucester sees this letter, Edmund puts on an act to get Gloucester to secretly listen to a conversation between him and Edgar to “prove his innocence” when he really wants him to look guilty.

  • After Gloucester leaves, Edmund finds his brother and tells him that someone must be plotting against him and that he should flee and stay hidden for he is in danger, making it seem that Edgar is fleeing from his father, making him look very guilty and swaying all inheritance to Edmund's side
