  • Declaration of Independence
  • We hereby declare independence!
  • Valley Forge
  • Battle of Yorktown
  • The Declaration of Independence signified that the colonies had officially gone to war, but that they could now also accept foreign aide. As much as this document called for freedom and help, it also was able to start to unify the colonies and their divide about declaring independence.
  • Valley Forge was the place where countrymen endured pain and suffering to hopefully come out alive. With the troops resting here for the first winter of the war, most were still just taken from farms or they were merchants. If Valley Forge did not kill them with disease or famine, it strengthened them into an army that was actually able to fight and win.
  • The Battle of Yorktown determined the outcome of the war based off of the winner, it also showed which side had the will to keep on fighting. The surrender here marked the shift of world power, and showed others that they did not really 'have' to be forced to obedience. The surrender of the war also took places two days after this battle, with the British Troops marching out in front of the Patriots.
