- The Virginia Plan was a proposal to establish a bicameral (two-branch) legislature in the newly founded United States. It was drafted by James Madison in 1787 and recommended that states be represented based upon their population numbers. It also called for the creation of three branches of government.

- Drafted by William Patterson, the New Jersey Plan was one option as to how the United States would be governed. The plan created a one-house or unicameral legislative body. States would receive the same amount of representatives regardless of their population.
- New Jersey Plan
- The Great Compromise was the name given to the agreement in the Creation of the Legislative Branch in the Constitutional Convention. According to the compromise, Congress would have the two houses, the Senate and the House of Representatives. The senate would give equal amounts of Senators to each state and the House of Representatives would determine the number of representatives based on the population of the state.

- The legislative branch will be made up of two houses and representation in each house should be based upon a state's population.
- Our Virginia Plan calls for three branches: legislative, executive, and judicial.

- Our New Jersey Plan is similar to the Articles with a single house legislature and equal representation. Representation cannot be based on population because the larger states will outvote the smaller states in Congress,
- My Great Compromise calls for a bicameral legislature = the Senate and the House of Representatives. The senate gives us equal representation to all states and the House of Representatives would base representation on a state's population
- The Senate having equal representation from all states satisfies us small states.
- The House of Representatives basing representation on population satisfies us larger states.
