Storyboard Text

  • Step 1: The Ordinary World The ordinary world is the hero’s home base (setting) and the character’s background.
  • His life in Spain is simple, safe, and secure.
  • We find Santiago living a pleasant life and caring for his sheep. He is in the region of Andalusia, Spain.
  • "The boy's name was Santiago. Dusk was falling as the boy arrived with his herd at an abandoned church...He decided to spend the night there" (Coehlo 5).
  • In an allegory almost everything has a symbolic meaning. One of the prominent symbols in The Alchemist is the desert.
  • When Santiago first enters the desert it seems like a dangerous and barren place. However, with the guidance of the Alchemist Santiago learns to listen to the heart, and language of the desert. The desert ultimately becomes one his greatest mentors on the way to the Pyramids.
  • The desert guides Santiago in his pursuit. For example, "1 quote or paraphrase from the novel." Furthermore, the desert may also relate to the extreme difficulty a journey of this nature takes on a person in pursuit of their Person Legend. However, in the end Santiago overcomes the challenges of his journey and finds his treasure.
