  • On April 19, 1775 Lexington and Concord fought. There were 700 British red coats, or regulars, and they were led by Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith. Captain John Parker was leading the militiamen in Lexington. This battle took place in Lexington, Concord, and Middlesex county. This battle is considered a military victory, and the Americans won the battle. this was the famous 'shot heard 'round the world' and it marked the start of the American War of Independence

  • On September 19, 1777, in Saratoga, the Americans and the British fought with General John Burgoyne as the leader for the British, and Major General Horatio Gates, Generals Benedict Arnold, and Benjamin Lincoln as the leaders for the Americans. This was a major turning point for the revolution because the British army surrendered under General Burgoyne, and this helped persuade the french to provide military assistance and recognize American independence.

This took place in Yorktown, and the Americans won. General Washington commanded the American army, while Lieutenant-General de Rochambeau commanded the French troops and Major-General Lord Cornwallis commanded the British and German troops.
