These 300 refugees included her family. She was so successful that plantation owners offered $40,000 bounty for her.
She was assisted by white abolishionist, Tom Garret from Willmington, Delaware. Tom Garret was in charge of both correspondance and funding for conductors in Eastern Maryland, Tubman's route.
