  • Oh my god! Why am I sweating so much?
  • Gertrude and Liesel were sitting outside on their porch enjoying a nice day. Gertrude is not sure why her body is sweating so much.
  • Well, your body temperature is increasing. So, your body is working to bring it back to the stable temperature. So, as your sweat evaporates, the heat is lost from the body.
  • Liesel explains to Gertrude why she is sweating and how her body is working to regulate her temperature.
  • Ahh!! This feels nice. Wait, Liesel. I am starting to shiver.
  • Gertrude and Liesel decide to come inside their house. The house is really cold and all of a sudden, Gertrude starts to shiver.
  • You are shivering because your body temperature is dropping. So, shivering generates heat, which warms the body.
  • Liesel, once again, explains to Gertrude why her body is shivering.
  • I don't understand. Why is my body doing these things? How does this work?
  • Gertrude is confused as to how her body is able to regulate her temperature.
  • Your body is constantly to maintain homeostasis. So, whenever your temperature rises or drops, your body sweats or shivers to bring back to normal temperature. This process is called negative feedback loop.
  • Liesel explains the process the negative feedback loop and how it works to maintain homeostasis.
