  • Next, the cuff inflates and squeezes the arm. Blood flow through your arteries stop for just a moment. Then, we release a valve on the hand pump to slowly release air in the cuff and restore blood flow once again!
  • Hello! My name is Dr. Smith and I am going to be discussing blood pressure with you. First, a health care professional wraps an inflatable cuff around your arm. The health care professional then inflates the cuff, which gently tightens on your arm.
  • Blood pressure is very important because having a high blood pressure is called hypertension and that can lead to many health issues. The top number in blood pressure is the systolic pressure and the bottom number is diastolic pressure. Blood pressure is the force originiating in the pumping action of the heart that is exerted by the blood against the walls of blood vessels.
  • Now, let's talk about how your blood pressure can be affected. Some factors that lead to affected blood pressure are age, not being physically active, too little potassium in your diet, and even too much salt in your diet.
  • Lastly, it is important to measure and record a patient's blood pressure because knowing your blood pressure gives you a cleaer vision of your risk for any heart diseases as well as strokes.
