- Romeo, you should move on! Examine other beauties.
- I love her, but she doesn't feel the same...
- Act 1, Scene 2
- I would like to marry your daughter
- I give you my permission, but she may not want to marry you, and when you see her you may want someone else to be your wife
- Act 1, Scene 2
- You should go Romeo! It'll take your mind off of romantic worries.
- Good Sir, I can help you read them!
- Thank you, kind sir. For that you may come to the party, just as long as you are not a Montague.
- I can't read this list! How am I supposed to find all these people if I can't read their names?!?
- Romeo tells Benvolio and his parents about how he is suffering from unrequited love. Benvolio tries to make Romeo see that there are "bigger fish in the pond."
- Act 1, Scene 3
- Paris wants to marry you, I think you should give him a chance
- I'm not sure about this...
- Paris asks Juliet's dad for her hand in marriage. Her father gives him his permission, but tells him that Juliet may not want to marry him, and he wouldn't make her marry him. He also says that when he meets her he may not still want to marry her.
- Act 1, Scene 4
- So did I
- The serving man can't read, but he has to invite everyone to the party. Romeo and Benvolio bump into him and Romeo tells him he can help. He reads off the names and then the serving man invites him to join them at the party. Benvolio urges him to go and get over his unrequited love.
- Act 1, Scene 5
- I'm in love with you!
- Both Lady Capulet and the nurse think that Juliet should marry Juliet, but Juliet isn't as sure. They ask her to give him a chance and to at least take a look at him at the party; Juliet says she will try.
- I too think you should give him a chance, he is a fine fellow
- Okay, I'll give him a chance, but I can't promise anything
- On their way to the Capulet party, Romeo is wary because of a dream he had last night and Mercutio makes fun of him.
- And what was your dream?
- I dreamed a dream last night
- That dreams often lie
- Romeo and Juliet meet and fall in love, not knowing that their families are rivals.
