Storyboard Text

  • After Japan surrender, in 1948 North Korea and South Korea divided In 1950, North Korea attacked South Korea in 38th parallel. South Korea was supported by anticommunists and North Korea by communists.
  • When the North Korean People's Army advance rapidly through the Republic of South Korea, they captured Seoul, the capital.United Nations told North Korea to stop the invasion to South Korea.
  • North Korea did not stop and president Truman sent American forces and made General Douglas MacArthur supreme commander. United Nations also sent troops supporting South Korea.
  • By September 10 North Korea had driven the South Korean army and some of its supporters to the southeast part of Korea, By September 15, the UN landed forces in the west and MacArthur had orders to push the North Koreans back.

  • On Oct. 19 Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea was captured. By Nov. 24 North Korean troops were almost driven until the Yalu River, to the border of Communist China.
  • China communists joined the North Korean forces and the Communist advanced into the South. After lots of fighting, the conflict went back to the 38th parallel. Still, Mac Arthur wanted to invade North Korea and Truman removed him. On July 27, an armistice agreement was signed.
