- (1)Ahem. Listen everyone~~Let's start with: What is the Pituitary Gland? The Pituitary gland is located at the base of the brain and is connected to the hypothalamus. It has 2 lobes and we'll be focusing on the Anterior lobe. This lobe produces it's own endocrine hormones, one of which is the melanocyte stimulating hormone or MSH. This MSH is related to the melanin production I said earlier because the MSH stimulate the melanocytes of the skin (hence the name) that increases the melanin pigment production.
