Storyboard Text
Aung San Suu Kyi was born in 1945 in Burma (now called Myanmar).
Her father who fought for the independence of Burma passed away when she was only 2 years old.
She lived the first 40 years of her life overseas.
In 1988, she moved back to Burma. She started her political career there and her party won the elections.
After that, the military annulled the results and put her in house arrest for 20 years.
In 2010, she was released from house arrest. Her party was allowed to run for by-elections in 2012 and won dozens of seats in parliament.
