- President Polk ordered General Zachary Taylor and the U.S army to move into disputed territory between the Nueces and the Rio Grande Rivers
- In February 1847 , U.S General Zachary Taylor lead troops to victory at Buena Vista
- Mexican army crossed the Rio Grande Rivers , captured U.S army patrol killing 11 soldiers
- In April 1846

- Because American blood was spilled on American soil!
