When the national party took over south africa, afrikaners limited the power of non white africans.

Everything was very segregated, like have separateschools and workplacesetc. But that wasn't the only thing, non whites had the worse land, non whites couldn'tmarry white africans, and non whites didn't have a political voice.

ANC members protested laws, school children protestedby marching, and there were many other peaceful protests.

During the ANC protest the government got violent and sent in forces. school protesting peacefullywhen they were shot at by police. africans started to start riots everywhere because of how mad they were with the government.

The new electedpresidentF. W. de klerk completelygot rid of the apartheidand releasednelson mandela from prison. mandela and klerk came together to change the government. and by the next election all races were able to vote and nelson mandela won and started a new democraticgovernment. proverty was still a thing in south africa
