After killing the Bull of Heaven, the Gods decided that one must die, and Enkidu meets that fate. Gilgamesh is devastated by his best friends death. He goes in search of immortality.

After searching for many years, Gilgamesh has finally found the boatman to take him to Utanapishtim, who is the only man known to have gained immortality.
Gilgamesh has met with Utanapishtim and his wife. After much time, he agrees to give Gilgamesh the magic plant of immortality, but Gilgamesh is too afraid to eat it, so he decides to take it back home with him.
After a hot day, Gilgamesh decides to cool off in the pond. While doing so, a snake smells the beautiful plant and steals it. The snake gains immortality and sheds it's skin while swimming away. Gilgamesh weeps, for all is lost.
