Storyboard Text

  • Act I
  • If I profane with my unworthiest hand this holy shrine, the gentle sin is this: my lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand to smooth that rough touch. with a tender kiss
  • Good pilgrim, you do wrong you hand too much, which mannerly devotion shows in this; for saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch and palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss
  • Act II
  • I take thee at thy word. Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized; henceforth I never will be Romeo
  • Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny they father and refuse they name; or, if thou will not, be but sworn my love, and I'll no longer be a Capulet
  • Tybalt, Mercutio, the Prince expressly hath Forbid this bandying in Verona streets. Hold, Tybalt! Good Mercutio!
  • Act III
  • I am hurt. A plague a both your houses! I am sped. Is he gone and hath nothing?
  • This is the scene where Romeo and Juliet meet each other for the first time. They have not even known each other for 5 minutes, and Romeo is already talking about kissing. This shows that Romeo wants to rush things, and moves on quickly. He completely forgets his love for Rosaline.
  • Act IV
  • "O me, O me! My child, my only life! Revive, loop up, or I will die with thee! Help, help! Call help.
  • "O lamentable day!"
  • "Come hither, mane, I see that thou art poor. Hold, there is forty ducats. Let me have a dram of poison, such soon-speeding gear as will disperse itself though all the veins that the life-weary taker may fall dead, and that the truck may be discharged of breath as violently as hasty powder fired doth hurry from the fatal cannons womb."
  • This is an important scene because, while Romeo is hiding from his friends in the bushes, Juliet comes out and says this whole speech about her love for Romeo. Meanwhile, Romeo is listening to every word, while Juliet doesn't even know he is there. But then Romeo pops out of the bush and declares his love for Juliet. They both say that if their name has a negative connotation they would change their names.
  • Act V
  • "Such mortal drugs I have; but Mantua's law Is death to any he that utters them."
  • Tybalt and Mercutio are fighting, and Romeo interferes to try to stop them. While Romeo is holding Mercutio back Tybalt goes under Romeo's arm with the sword and stabs Mercutio. Tybalt runs away from the scene. Mercutio, the cousin of the prince, dies and Romeo is furious. Tybalt comes back, and when he does he has a duel with Romeo. Romeo then kills Tybalt, Juliet's cousin.
  • Act V
  • "But I can give thee more; for I will raise her statue in pure gold, that whiles Verona by that name is known, there shall no figure at such rate be set as that of true and faithful Juliet."
  • "As rich shall Romeo's by his lady's lie- Poor sacrifices of our enmity!"
  • This scene is an example of dramatic irony because the audience knows that Juliet isn't really dead, but everyone onstage thinks she is. When they find Juliet, Lord and Lady Capulet just can't believe it. They think they have lost Juliet on her wedding day. So they decided to turn the wedding preparations into funeral preparations.
  • After Romeo finds out that Juliet is dead, (Romeo doesn't know about the Friars' plan) he finds a poor apothecary and buys poison from him. The importance of this scene is that money will make people do things they shouldn't do. Romeo is going to go to Juliet's grave and take his own life, in order to be with her.
  • This scene is important because the feuding families realize how much of an impact their fighting has done. It's taken their children's lives and caused fear in the streets. In memorial to their children, they will build statues of them. With their children's death, the fighting ends.
