Hey! Did you know there is more to electing a president than vote?
When we are voting for a new president, we aren't really voting for the candidates. We are voting for electors to represent our state and vote for us!
Each state gets 2 electors.  All the electors gather up at their state capitals and vote on who THEY think should be President and Vice President.
Once all the votes are finalized, they are counted in front of the congress and determined who gets elected President and Vice President. There needs to be a total of 270 votes.
In conclusion, electoral votes is what's needed to become president. Yes a candidate might have more popular votes, it doesn't really have much value on who get elected.
Now you know what the Electoral College is and how it's involved in the election!
