  • Mason SmallThe Perks Of Being A Wallflower Storyboard09/10/22
  • The theme of the story The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is that accepting and embracing others can cause them to flourish individualy and that life can be extremely miserable for people that are not treated fairly. The scene depicted above is supposed to be when Patrick, Charlie, and Sam hungout for the first time at the school football game.
  • I was sitting on the floor of a basement of my first real party between Sam and Patrick, and I remembered that Sam introduced me as her friend to Bob. And I remembered that Patrick had done the same for Brad. And I started to cry. And nobody in that room looked at me weird for doing it. And then I really started to cry. (25) (PDF) This quote supports the theme because it show just how small gestures really effect a person. For instance when charlie is introduced as Patrick and Sams friend rather than just some guy really touches him, it enough to bring him to tears. And then when Charlie did start to cry nobody made him feel wierd for doing so which made him cry harder not out of sadness or nerves but because he finally felt like he belonged.
  • I was crying because I was suddenly very aware of the fact that it was me standing up in that tunnel with the wind over my face. Not caring if I saw downtown. Not even thinking about it. Because I was standing in the tunnel. And I was really there. And that was enough to make me feel infinite. This quote somewhat similar to the last one shows the ultimate overtime progression for the charecter of Charlie. Where as the previous one used nostalgia or past tense this one is obviously using present tense which makes the quote feel alot more impactful then the previous. In the begining Charlie starts off as this nervious, and confused freshman who has no idea where he is going to be going throughout the year or what it will look like in any sense. Then he meets Sam and Patrick who end up becoming his best friends. Later on he meets Bob at the party and then starts going to the Punk Rocky and meets Mary Elizabeth. And throughout meeting all of these people he has only recived influence and being what he thinks they want him to be. In the beging when Charlie, Sam, and Patrick first go through the tunnel Charlie quotes as a group saying we feel infinite. But at the end he realises that all of these experiences that he's had over the past school year and the friends and memories, would never of happend unless he didn't to some degree step out from his comfort zone. He doesn't care about anything else at the moment all he cares about is the fact that he himself finanlly singularly feels complete, happy, or in this case infinite.
  • I won’t go into detail about the whole show, but I had the best time I ever had in my whole life. I’m not kidding. I got to pretend that I was singing, and I got to dance around, and I got to wear a “feather boa” in the grande finale, which I wouldn’t have thought anything of because it’s part of the show, but Patrick couldn’t stop talking about it. (62) (PDF) This quote shows that by now Charlie has basically fully come out of his shell at one point being to reclussive and nervous to speak to anyone now hes parading around and having fun while basically fully exposed to the audiance and he is still ahving the best time and all of this being due to the fact that he was influenced to come out of his shell by his friends.
  • I don’t remember where we were walking to or where we were walking from. I don’t even rememberthe season. I just remember walking between them and feeling for the first time that I belongedsomewhere. (112) (PDF)As the quote implies this iis one of the few times that charlie actual felt like he belongs. And not just belong in a sense of simpling existing like he used to do, but as group belonging or collective of people those being his friends. For Charlie this is just such a big step from being the wallflower he once used to be and it shows how much your perspective can be changed just by the people you associate with.
