Storyboard Text

  • This black, dusty, eye watering object is called Coal. Coal is a type of rock that is combined of carbon and hydrocarbons. Coal is used to generate the one thing we need in life the most: Electricity! Okay, now let's go back in time a bit.
  • The mud is preventing access to oxygen
  • Coal was first developed way back to 300 million years ago. Yes, the era the dinosaurs lived. That time, a lot of shallow seas and dense forests surround the vicinity. Hence as time went on, the shallow seas flooded the forests, resulting in the trees to get trapped.
  • Overtime, the trapped trees got compressed by the mass of muds and vegetation lying on the ground. This resulted in the sediments to slowly sink to the ground, adding heat and pressure to it.
  • Heat and pressure is added and no oxygen is present. Carbonisation. The sediments are now turning into coal
  • The mud prevents any plant matters to access oxygen, thus making the decomposing process slower. Due to this course, the plants still had most of their carbon in them.
  • Now, let me tell you a long, complicated word. (Well, it's not that complicated) but it is called 'Carbonisation' Now, what is Carbonisation. Well carbonisation is the process of the plant matter turning into coal. I know, you may be wondering "Wait, didn't we just go through how plant matters turn into coal?". Well we did, however that wasn't the process of it, it was basically how it starts off.
  • Now carbonisation is happens when the plants matters are now underground, and they gain a huge amount of heat and pressure. This turns the plant matters into coal. Yes, that's carbonisation. This is how it all started off.
