  • Introduction - George Washington Carver
  • Today, we are going to learn about a famous black man named George Washington Carver and see how he impact us to this day. George Washington Carver was an American agricultural scientist and inventor. He was born in 1864, Diamond, Missouri, U.S.
  • Family
  • Around 1864, George Washington Carver was born into slavery because his parents are enslaves. During Civil War, Carver farm was attacked, and baby George and his mother were kidnapped. The slave owner, Moses Carver was able to find young George, but not his mother, Mary. In 1865, George was no longer an enslaved child, but Moses Carver decided to keep George and his brother, James, raising and educating them. George stay there until he was about 10 or 12 years old and left to find an education.

  • Education
  • George Washington Carver unlike most of the black people during that time, he had much of his education. He support himself by having a lot of jobs such as hotel cooker, household worker, laundryman and more. He had his high school education in Kansas and college in Iowa State Agricultural College (later Iowa State University) where he received a bachelor's degree in agricultural science (1894) and a master of science degree (1896).

  • I plant peanuts here this year and I guess I'm going to plant potatoes here next year.
  • George Washington Carver have many inventions, and one of the best well known inventions is crop rotation or planting different crops in different time period but in the same area.

  • Crop rotation help farmers grow better crops and boost the economy, since it reduces reliance on one set of nutrients, pest and weed pressure, which help develop resistance against pests and weeds that can destroy crops.

  • Something interesting about George Washington Carver is that he master many different subjects and was multitalented. He was an excellent scientist and inventor, but also a skillful pianist and painter. His artwork was even exhibited at the World's Fair in 1893.
