- The French and Indian War left Britain broke and in debt. They felt as though America had to pay their debts because they benefitted from the war. So they made the Sugar Act and the Stamp Act.

- The colonists were very upset about being under the representation of the House of Commons in Britain, which was 3,000 miles away from America.

- James Otis came up with the idea to have an intercolonial conference to agree on a untied course of action.
