  • no thank you honey
  • wow honey this chicken is so good. Are you gonna have any?
  • oh no! That chicken may have given you salmonella!
  • Actually I think this chicken was raw honey!
  • This is the first step of the digestive process which is oral digestion. This consists of mechanical and chemical digestion. Mechanical digestion is when a Food is broken down physically into smaller parts, which in this case is the chewing of the food. The chemical digestion then occurs which is when the saliva begins to break down the carbohydrates in the food. This then begins to turn it into a salivated ball called the bolus
  • After the food is mechanically and chemically digested it is swallowed and sent through the esophagus. The esophagus begins to contract which is called peristalsis. This pushes the bolus down towards the stomach.
  • we just got into a muscular sac called the stomach through the end of the esophagus called the esophagus sphincter which is a small muscle ring. the stomach is a acidic environment located between the esophagus and small intestine and is located in the upper abdomen. In the stomach we get chemically digested by enzymes that the pancreas makes. We are also mechanically digested more by churning in the stomach. We are chicken so we are mostly made up of Protein and Fat. The enzyme from the pancreas called pepsin breaks down the protein compounds in us which makes us smaller. the pancreas also releases another protein called lipase breaks down our fat compounds even further making us even smaller. Now that we have been mechanically and chemically digested we are pushed through another muscle ring at the bottom of the stomach which pushes us into the first part of the intestine.
  • We have just exited the stomach and entered the first part of the small intestine known as the duodenum. In the small Intestine more of our nutrients are absorbed by chemical digestion through the bile from the liver and more Enzymes from the Pancreas. These enzymes consist of Amylase which breaks down starch into Maltose, Protease which breaks down protein into amino acids, Lipase which breaks down fat into Glycerol and fatty acids, and maltase which breaks down maltose into Glucose. These nutrients then get absorbed by the small intestine and sent to the rest of the body where they provide all of the things we need to function.
