- Carlson wants to shoot Candy's dog. After Carlson left, Slim, Whit, and George were trying to play euchre but tension with Candy stopped them. Slim had to put tar on his mule's hoof, so he also left the room.

- After Carlson shot Candy's dog, he and Lennie came back to the bunkhouse. Carlson told Whit and George that Curley is finding his wife. Then, Curley burst into the room.

- Carlson and Whit left to help Curley look for his wife. Inside the bunkhouse, George, Candy, and Lennie enjoyed their talking about the dream house.

- The others came back. Curley argued with Slim and Carlson. Suddenly, he saw Lennie was smiling and thinks that Lennie was laughing at him and they fought. Lennie was thinking about the dream house instead. After that, Curley was greatly injured because Lennie is stronger, and Carlson had to take him to a doctor.
