- Rainsford goes out into the night following a noise he heard. He then realized it was someone firing 3 gunshots. "He lunged for it; a short, hoarse cry came from his lips as he realized he had reached too far and had lost his balance. " (Connell 31)
- Climax (When Rainsford jumped off the cliff)
- Rainsford follows the gunshot noises thinking, "where there is men, there is food." (Connell 39) He goes through the doors and comes to a stop by the largest man he's seen, pointing a gun at his heart.
- Falling Action
- Rainsford tries to set a trap for Zaroff to throw him off, and when Zaroff gets there Rainsford is hiding so he isn't seen. Instead of Zaroff falling for the trap, he notices it and walks away.
- Resolution
- Rainsford decides to jump off the cliff. He did this because he's going to trick Zaroff into thinking he was killed.
- Zaroff returns to his home thinking he has won the hunt. Little does he know when he gets home, Rainsford is waiting for him.
- Rainsford decided, "He had never slept in a better bed," (Connell 206) meaning Rainsford won the hunt. Meanwhile Zaroff was dog food since he lost the hunt.
