Storyboard Text

  • Are you ready to present our final presentation for the year?
  • Yes! I'm so excited to share our understanding on the Four Pillars at Carroll University.
  • Alright class! Our last presentation is Emily and Cora.

  • Integrated Knowledge Carroll’s goal for this was to encourage students to recognize the interrelationships among ideas. With this, we will continue to grow. This will help in my career because I will be able to continue to learn in different settings. I will be able to achieve deep conceptual knowledge throughout my career. My CCE focused on this by being open to learn about other cultures while being face to face with Native Hawaiians. It was different than all of my other classes because we were physically with another culture.
  • Lifelong Skills With this pillar, we learned that Carroll wants us students to be prepared for the constant change that will happen throughout our lives. The variety of GenEd classes available is outstanding because we could pick a specific class that we wanted to learn more about, as well as deepen our understanding. This is a benefit to us since we are able to think critically and creatively about what is next to come. I took a history course for one of my GenEd classes and it was really interesting to learn about America since 1877, and how technology and laws have changed. With this knowledge gained, I will be able to learn new techniques as they present themselves.
  • Enduring Values This pillar means that we will always take into account our actions, as well as others. Some people of other cultures may react to a situation differently and we have to respect that. This will show that we have leadership skills as we won't offend others values. This was shown in my CCE class because we had to learn about the Hawaiians value and respected the things they do because it’s all part of their specific culture. We learn from each other and that’s what makes us have a strong personal value system.
  • Gateway Experiences   This pillar demonstrates being prepared for whatever is to come next. Carroll prepared us for coming into college by having an orientation week so we could meet people in our CCS100 class as well as get to know the University. This allowed us to get comfortable with the change of scenery. Along with this, we have a very helpful staff that keeps us on track of things we need to get done in order to graduate on time. At the same time, they tend to help more during freshman year and slowly back away to make us do adult things independently. Preparing us to leave college is important because it will make the transition to whatever is next smooth.
