- A few miles south of Soledad, along the Salinas river, there was a small pond surrounded by the tracks of those who have come through and the fire ashes they had left behind.
- Lennie is a huge man with a shapeless of face large pale eyes, and wide sloping shoulders. he walks heavily and drags his feet.
- George is small and quick, with a dark face, sharp strong features and small strong hands, slender arms and a slip and bony nose
- "He threw a scoop of water into his face and rubbed it about with his hand, under his chin and around the back of his head. Then he replaced his hat, pushed himself back from the river, drew up his knees and embraced them. Lennie, who had been watching, imitated George exactly."
- "Lennie, stop copying me."
- "What you want off a dead mouse, anyways?"
- Lennie thought he had lost his bus ticket but he hadn't, instead he had a dead mouse in his pocket
- "I could pet it with my thumb while we walked along."
- Lennie was pulling on a girls dressand him doing that got them chased out of the town. They laid in an irrigation ditch and stayed until dark.
